Homemade chocolates

This Valentine’s Day gift idea is really easy to make and with the wide range of different shapes there is certainly something for everybody. You can also fill the chocolates, as long as the chocolate is still fluid. When you melt the chocolate it is important to know a few tricks, so here we go with the detailed instructions:

[/column] [/row] [row] [column md=“4″]
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 300 g chocolate
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 2 strips of chocolate moulds
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] optional

decoration or filling

[/column] [column md=“8″]

Break the chocolate in small pieces so that it can melt faster and more evenly. Put the chocolate into a small bowl and melt it over a saucepan of hot, but not boiling water.

Also the hot water must not touch the bowl otherwise the chocolate could become too hot and does not solidify properly. It is best to use a cooking thermometer. Dark chocolate works with 55 degrees, light chocolate with 45 degrees. If the chocolate is melted you can fill it in the moulds so that the bottom of the moulds is covered. You can also spread some sugar crumble into the moulds in advance and then pour the chocolate over it.

Now you can add the filling in the middle of the moulds, for example macadamia or hazel nuts. Finally, pour the remaining chocolate in the moulds and let the chocolates solidify overnight.

Creative donuts

Donuts are loved by everybody and especially they are a feast for the eyes! That’s why homemade and wonderfully decorated donuts are the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for him & her. There are so many possibilities to decorate the donuts, starting with mini marshmallows to edible stars and pearls over to artful decoration with food colouring – there are no limits to your creativity.

[/column] [/row] [row] [column md=“4″]
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 375 g wheat flour
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 package of dry yeast
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 150 ml milk
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 50 g sugar
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 60 g butter
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 egg
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] Pinch of salt
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“]

Plant oil for baking

For the glaze:

[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 100 g chocolate
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“]   optional some toppings (e.g. mini marshmallows)
[/column] [column md=“8″]

Heat the milk in a jar and melt the butter. Mix the wheat flour with the dry yeast. Then add the milk-butter mixture and the other ingredients (except for chocolate, oil and topping) and mix everything with the dough hook for five minutes. Then cover the bowl with a tea towel and leave it at a warm place for at least 30 minutes.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface and roll it to a thickness of approximately 1 cm and cut out the donuts with a donut cutter. Alternatively you can use two glasses with different sizes. Heat the oil to 180°C. You can check the heat by holding a wooden handle into the oil – when bubbles arise, you can start. Now bake the donuts from both sides for two minutes. Fish them out of the oil pan and drain them on a kitchen roll.

Melt the chocolate and cover the donuts with it. As long as the chocolate is still liquid you can decorate your donuts with the toppings of your choice.

Sweet cakepops

This Valentine’s Day gift idea is from the US and is becoming more and more popular here in Germany. Cakepops always come with a wow effect as they do not only taste sweet with the decoration but they also look incredibly great!

[/column] [/row] [row] [column md=“4″]
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 150 g sugar
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 150 g butter
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 3 eggs
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 150 g flour
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 teaspoon baking powder

For the glaze:

[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 100 g chocolate
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“]

Optional some toppings (e.g. mini marshmallows)

[/column] [column md=“8″]

Beat butter and sugar for five minutes to a creamy mass. Add the eggs one after another and stir everything. Add the flour and the baking powder and mix everything to a smooth dough. Grease the shapes of the cakepopmaker very well, preheat them and fill the bottom of the mould with a spray bag.

Bake the cakepops for five minutes, let them cool down and then spike them on a wooden stick. Melt the chocolate and cover the cakepops with it. As long as the chocolate is still liquid you can decorate your donuts with the toppings of your choice.

Red cake hearts

Do you want to give your heart away on Valentine’s Day? If yes, I recommend red cake hearts. They can also be decorated and you can  serve them on Valentine’s Day or present them as a beautiful gift. The DIY packages can be perfectly used as gift boxes to store these beautiful, edible hearts.

The making is very simple. Just make a quick  cake mix and add red food colouring. Then fill the dough into a suitable cake mould. After the baking cut the cake into 3-4 cm thick slices and then cut out little hearts.

Recipe for the red mixing dough:

[/column] [/row] [row] [column md=“4″]
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 80 g butter
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 120 g flour
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 80 g sugar
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 egg
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 teaspoon of baking powder
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“]

Pinch of salt

[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“]

Red food colouring

[/column] [column md=“8″]

Beat butter and sugar for five minutes to a creamy mass. Add the eggs one after another and stir everything. Add food colouring, flour and baking powder and process everything to a smooth dough.

Fill the dough in a greased form and bake the cake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C for 30 minutes.

Cup Cakes

I guess you all already know cup cakes and that they can be wonderfully decorated. Therefore they should not be missing when it comes to recipe ideas for Valentine’s Day. For the dough I used the same cake mix like I used for the red heart cookies, but just without the food colouring. Therefore I decided to limit the recipe to the topping, which I have also coloured again with food colouring. In addition, I have covered the muffins with fondant. Since I am still a beginner, I leave the explanation rather to a professional and thus I would like to refer to the instructions of „Mann Backt“:

Recipe of coloured cream-cheese-vanilla frosting

[/column] [/row] [row] [column md=“4″]
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 50 g butter
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 50 g cream cheese
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 50 g icing sugar
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 vanilla pod
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“]

Food colouring

[/column] [column md=“8″]

Beat the soft butter creamy, then add the icing sugar and stir everything. Add cream cheese, marrow from the vanilla pod and food colouring. Fill the frosting into a spray bag and spread it over the muffins.

Chocolate on a stick

As a variation of the chocolates described above, chocolate on a stick, possibly even with nuts or filling, is another brilliant gift idea. With this idea, of course, the extra portion of love should not be missing. Making is very simple and the recipe of the chocolates can easily be used here. With the exception that there are special forms in which the sticks can be put. With the great forms, I have linked you further down, you can also make delicious soft caramel or homemade lollipops.

Do you know anybody who does not like cookies? Well, I don‘t – so why shall we not express our love with cookies instead of flowers? The special thing about these butter cookies ist that they can be shaped in any way you want and so you can create hearts, cookie pairs or letters to express your feelings with these cookies. Of course, you can also decorate these cookies to give them an even more personal touch.

[/column] [/row] [row] [column md=“4″]
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 500 g flour
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 200 g sugar
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] vanilla dish
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 egg
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 2 egg yolk
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“] 1 Prs. salt
[icon type=“glyphicon glyphicon-ok“]  350 g butter
[/column] [column md=“8″]

Mix all the ingredients except for the egg yolk to a smooth dough. Keep the dough on a cold place for an hour. Cut out shapes from the dough and place it on a baking tray covered with baking paper. Spread the egg yolk on the cookies and put them in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
